Eligible industries to qualify for this program
Developed specifically for the agricultural sector, this program is aimed to boost Meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116), Greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114) and Animal production, excluding aquaculture. Your job offer from a Canadian employer must be in any of these fields. These industries have a dedicated North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.
Eligible occupations to qualify for this program
Under each of these industries, there are specific occupations that are eligible for this pilot program. These include Retail butchers, Industrial butchers, Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers and Food processing labourers under meat product manufacturing.
The occupations under greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production, are: Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers, General farmworkers and Harvesting labourers.
Under the Animal production, excluding aquaculture, the eligible occupations are Farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers and General farmworkers.
Work Experience
To qualify for the relevant work experience category, you must have accumulated 1 year of full-time engagement with a Canadian employer in a non-seasonal job. This experience should be within the last 3 years with at least 1,560 hours. It would also count if the experience is gained under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
Language Requirement
You must produce relevant language proficiency certificates in order to work and settle in Canada. To quantify this, one needs a Level 4 CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) in English or French. The sections of these tests include Reading, Writing, Speaking and Hearing.
Educational Qualification
The Agri-Food Pilot Program is one of those initiatives by the Canadian government that doesn’t require high educational qualifications. A high school diploma from a Canadian educational institute or its equivalent is valid to apply for this program. This would be decided on the basis of ECA (Educational Credential Assessment) which must not be older than 5 years. ECA is a certificate that would ensure the authorities that your educational qualification meets the standard.
In addition to the points mentioned above, you are required to produce proof of adequate funds in your bank account to support yourself and cover your living expenses in Canada. Also, if you decide to bring your family to Canada, you must show enough funds to support them too. If you are already living in Canada at the time of applying for this program, you must declare your status and provide the relevant documents.
